In the spotlight of the revitalisation of the 1960s district “De Prinsenhof” a new broad school called “De Waterlelie” of 4,300 m2 was realised. The new school houses two primary school and one day-care centre with out-school relief as well as a district centre, a health centre and a sports hall. The school floats as a water lily in a water party. From the bridge one reaches the roof of the school which also serves as play garden. The sports hall was constructed underground. From the exits of the school one has sight on the sports hall.

Installations, Flexibility & Sustainability

Valstar Simonis was asked to develop a smart installation-technical solution with a sustainable character for a healthy inside environment, Of course the design of the architect, the wishes of the client for use (in case of delivery and in the future) and legal requirements constitute the basis.
From there, plans for ventilation, heating, cooling, lighting, and security were designed and choices were made for the installations. Making smart use of constructional and technical possibilities starts here. The architects, the constructor, as well as the installation consultant collaborate to find the optimum result. And this all within the limited budget that was available for the project.

Smart shaft
At “The Water Lily” project, the rain water is for example directly discharged in the water party. The building was designed in such way that the EPC is 15% lower than the applicable standard.
