The old operating theatres in Helmond were nearly thirty years old. Materials and systems were due to replacement. The Elkerliek Hospital made investments in a new theatre complex to treat patients even better. Simultaneously the Intensive Care was renewed and extended to twelve beds and a new Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) was developed.

The new building is literally put on stilts next to the existing hospital. During the rebuilding the operating theatres remained in use. On basis of a sliding plan there has been built in seven phases. At the start eight theatres where built. On the vacant space of the old theatres the new IC unit was built with 12 IC rooms. At the site of the old IC rooms we realized the new CSS department.

By making an integral design, based on the desired end state, an optimum logistic is formed.
